Who knew I would be so nervous to write my first blog post? I mean, I write a fair amount (read: way too much!) on Facebook, and I even brave doing Facebook lives! Yet here I am. Clicking the official looking 'New Post', feeling the weight on my shoulders. That every word must be exact and every sentence succinct. After posing SO very many blog posts in the shower, in my mind - will the actual moment be my undoing?!
I feel like I have covered the 'About Me' section fairly well. But perhaps that is where I should start? Explaining how I came about to be using dōTERRA essential oils. For those who don't obsessively read through every tab of a website (say what?). So here goes...
I had always used store bought oils (they were actually synthetic fragrances, and I didn't realise! I suffered from major Mum's guilt knowing I had been burning chemicals into our breathing air! But pacified myself with the knowledge that I had done things like microwave non-microwaveable bowls - so we probably already had a healthy dose of toxins in our blood). We purely used them to burn (no!) for the smell in our home. Because, you know, essential oils (in this case synthetic fragrances!), are just for making the house smell pretty.. weren't they?..
Back in August, 2016, I had been unwell for about 6 weeks. I had just come back from the doctor who had diagnosed a chest and sinus infection on top of the influenza. I was sleep deprived and miserable! I went to the chemist to find SOMETHING to help. There I phoned my now Upline to ask her what oils to buy. I was desperate, and I had seen Eucalyptus - and was sure that sounded airway-openingish (totally a word). She sent me home with instructions that she would be over in a few minutes, and not to buy anything. I impulse bought three diffusers from the chemist (I didn't even know what a diffuser was!), because that how I cope with my sad feelings. By spending money, or eating them (the feelings - not the money. Obviously.). And went home to wait.
My Upline shared with me some samples of OnGuard and Easy Air. I didn't even apply them topically as she suggested, as I wasn't too sure about the whole thing! It all seemed a little heeby-jeebyish (again, is a word. Don't look it up.) But we set up diffusers in our room, and both kid's rooms. (We were all unwell, but due to multiple other health conditions, I was the one getting worse!). That night we had an AWESOME sleep. Awesome. So I dragged the diffuser into the lounge room, and it pumped away with the oils for the day. And by the next day we had run out! I phoned my Upline, who came over to show me how to order. Being a newbie herself, I was her first enrolment. And I could see that the best way to start was with a kit. The oils came in the mail SO FAST. And I broke out 2 of the 10, and went with those until I was finally back on my feet.
I had NO IDEA how many uses there were for essential oils. Being an avid reader and researcher, I hit the books and the private Facebook support groups. I was hooked! I began to realise these oils were SO MUCH more than to smell pretty, and to help with respiratory and immune support; and that there was so many different products to try. Digestive support, sleep support, help with anxious feelings, mood management, cleaning, first aid, skin care, body care, pet care, shampoo and conditioner, vitamins and minerals, soothing muscles and joints... I could go all day. But the general gist of it is - they are everywhere in our house! We replaced as many toxic and synthetic products in our house as we could, and 18 months on we are still constantly amazed at what these oils can do.
It has spurred us into a journey of health and wellness. It was time for us to get serious, and take charge of our health. And raise our children to know of the natural medicine that can be used to support them daily, and to complement Western medicine when they were unwell. We love that they naturally reach for these oils (under supervision of course!), where we once would have reached for the first aid kit. Our medical costs have significantly reduced, I have lost 20 kilos (to be continued!), we have reduced toxic chemical products in our home, and we have improved our emotional health. Not to mention the beautiful oily tribe we have joined, and then extended.
We are now Premier leaders within dōTERRA. From day one the business side seemed a no-brainer to me. Share oils, which I would have done anyway - get my oils for free, AND get paid. Umm, OKAY! So now we like to empower others to use essential oils, and essential oil infused products, in their own journey to optimum health and wellness. We support our team in their essential oil use, and encourage those that like to share their experience to also learn how to get their oils for free! This year we are stepping into Leadership - with the goal of guiding others to financial freedom through the business opportunity, as we aim to achieve this freedom ourselves. Feel free to browse our website, and our social media pages. We would love to hear from you if you have any questions, would like to purchase oils, join our team - or for any other reason! Thank you for your support xx
